Basic Guidelines

It is very important that you respect the following guidelines.

- Eat and drink in the student lounge only – not in the classrooms please. It is fine to take water into classrooms as long as you take away the bottles/cups at the end of the lesson.

- We love clean tables above and below, so please – no chewing gum in the classroom.

- We are an international community with our common language of English - so ONLY use ENGLISH in the school – using other languages is harmful to the friendly, international learning environment of the school.

- To get your certificate you need at least 80% attendance. Poor attendance and lateness will affect your grades and may result your office being notified.

- The computer lab is a very expensive resource. If you want to use the lab you must respect the rules of the lab – no food or drink (even water) and do not download screen savers or any material that may be offensive in any way to other students. Do not open any attachment that does not come with a substantial personal message from the sender.

- Homework is an essential part of your course – not an option.

- Please be sensitive to the different cultures of other students.

- No smoking in the school building.

- Students must respect quiet hours set by the host family.

Failure to comply with the above rules and regulations may lead to your dismissal from the program.

Security

The EF School in Toronto is located in the heart of the downtown area. Every person within the building should be a staff member or student of EF. This means that at most times it is very secure but at the same time you should be careful with all your personal belongings, just as you are in any public building. Please do not bring any valuable items or large sums of money to school if you can avoid this. Also please remember to carry your things with you at all times. There are pegs in the school corridor for coats and jackets but we do not advise you to leave any backpacks bags or expensive coats in this area. The school is not responsible for any loss or theft of property.

Please also remember to leave important items like passports and airline tickets in your home-stay or apartment. You will only need to bring your passport and insurance documents on your first day and we will make a copy, after this, please leave these things at home! You do not need to carry your passport in Canada.

If you see anybody in the school who looks suspicious please tell any member of staff immediately. It is important that you not leave exit doors open.
