Free-time activities and excursions
The school arranges weekend excursions and day trips to local attractions. The number of trips and the cost depend upon the time of year and the number of students wishing to participate. If you are planning to visit the United States you must have a machine-readable passport. Excursions can be paid for in cash or with traveller's cheques. Credit cards can be used for payment, however, there is an administration fee charged.
Please note that some of these excursions will only run if a certain number of people pay and some are seasonal for example skiing (winter only) and white water rafting/kayaking (summer only). For further details, please ask our Activities Coordinator.
The school also organizes ice-skating, theatre and restaurant nights, group sports events (soccer, volleyball, bowling), international dinners and outings to see professional sports, such as the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team and CFL football games in season. The Activities Coordinator will also organise sports games and tournaments, depending on student interest and participation.
There are several fitness clubs in the downtown Toronto area, as well as in host family neighbourhoods. Membership fees and transportation are your responsibility. There are often special student rates available for monthly membership, with discounts for groups.
Toronto offers an abundance of parks and outdoor activities, including High Park, Trinity Bellwoods Park, the Beaches area and Toronto Island which offer a variety of recreational facilities, including tennis courts, hiking trails, nature walks, rollerblading paths and swimming pools. These parks are open to the public, but charge a small fee in some cases for special attractions. Most of them are all accessible by public transport from downtown Toronto. We also have sports equipment if you are interested.
Times and activities may vary slightly depending on the time of year and number of people arriving on a particular weekend. Please note some activities allow you to be excused from class, and some do not! Details are available in the Activities office. Remember, you must have at least 80% attendance to receive your certificate J
