Health, Money and Holidays

Health Care

There are medical clinics and hospitals near the school and near host family neighbourhoods, which the school staff can recommend to you if you need medical attention. You will need to pay immediately in cash for any medical service.

Please remember that health care in Canada can be extremely costly. EF requires all students to be insured upon starting their program of study. We ask you to bring proof of insurance so that we know that all students have proper health insurance when a medical emergency occurs. Students who do not bring proof of insurance will have to obtain insurance at the school.

ERIKA insurance is designed specifically for EF students studying abroad. You can purchase ERIKA Insurance in the first six weeks at school. Please speak to the Administration Coordinator for more details.

Money Matters

Depending on your lifestyle, we recommend that you take between C$150 and C$200 per week excluding excursions, and depending on how much travelling, shopping and eating in restaurants you plan to do during your visit to Toronto. Please remember that you will be responsible for some meals.

Credit Cards: EF strongly recommends that students travel with either a Visa or MasterCard. Credit cards enable students to rent cars, reserve hotel rooms, and do various activities, which may be more difficult with cash or travellers' cheques.

The School itself accepts cash and Canadian dollar travellers’ cheques for payment of excursions but does not accept credit cards.

Holidays

EF Toronto recognizes several holidays throughout the year. Classes will not be held on these days and the school will be closed. Some of these dates change from year to year, or they fall on a weekend, and the school closing date will therefore be pushed forward or back accordingly. Please make sure to consult the school staff to confirm any specific holiday times.
