Internship Program

1. Are you interested in learning English without doing textbook exercises?

2. Do you enjoy authentic communication practice with native-speakers?

3. Would you like to learn more about North American business culture?

4. Do you need to expand your work skills in a professional environment?

5. Do you require international work experience for your future career?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then EF International Internship is for you.

Internship is a special academic program where much of the learning takes place outside of the classroom. It is designed for mature students who would like to work in an English-speaking environment within their field of interest. The primary aim of the program is to give students a chance to use their English in real life situations. EF Interns can also benefit from seeing how a Canadian company works firsthand, and from learning important work skills.

Internship is unlike other EF courses because it involves communication with non-EF employees and their Canadian customers. Internship students are interacting with people who are not English teachers, and therefore always speak in a natural way at a natural speed. Working in this kind of environment is a highly authentic way to improve one's English. It is particularly useful for ambitious students who want to improve in spoken fluency, spoken accuracy, pronunciation and active vocabulary.

During the work placement, students are expected to behave just like any other employee. They must dress appropriately, always arrive on time, always be polite, carry out the work as best they can, and communicate effectively. Therefore, all Internship students must:

  1. Maintain a grade point average of 3.2 or higher (B+)

  2. Attend at least 85% of all EF classes

  3. Attend 100% of Internship Preparation lessons and scheduled work days (within reason)

  4. Achieve a minimum of 50 work hours  (90 hours or more recommended)

  5. Maintain EF Level 5 or higher prior to work placement (although preparation can begin at lower levels)

Upon successful completion of the program, all students will receive an official Certificate of International Internship, which they can add to their resume. They can also request a letter of reference from their host company supervisor.

Because of EF Toronto's downtown location, we always have a wide variety of interesting work placements available. Popular choices include: Business, Marketing, Travel and Hospitality, Administration, Art and Theatre, Information Technology, Translation, Education, and many more...
